New York, New York – Temperatures will drop to near freezing overnight, creating an immediate frost risk across parts of the Tri-State area that could damage plants before sunrise Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight through 9 a.m. Sunday, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 33°F across portions of southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey, and southeastern New York.

Impacted areas include Southern Middlesex and Southern New London counties in Connecticut; Western Bergen and Western Passaic counties in New Jersey; and Rockland, Northern Westchester, and parts of Suffolk County in New York, including both northeast and southeast Long Island. Suburban and inland areas will be most vulnerable, where colder pockets can form overnight.

Light winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to drop rapidly after midnight, especially away from urban centers. Sensitive vegetation, including early spring flowers and garden plants, faces the highest risk of damage or death if left uncovered.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender plants, especially in areas along the I-95 corridor north and east of New York City, as well as inland valleys where colder air settles.

Conditions will improve after 9 a.m. Sunday as temperatures rise quickly with morning sunshine. However, additional cold nights remain possible this spring, and further advisories could be issued if similar conditions develop again.
