Amarillo, Texas – Drivers across the Texas Panhandle could encounter brief downpours and lightning through 10 a.m. Saturday as a weakening line of storms pushes east, creating slick roads and reduced visibility during the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storm coverage is steadily decreasing across the region, with activity becoming more scattered and shifting into the eastern Panhandle. Light rain remains the primary concern, though isolated lightning strikes are still possible through mid-morning.
Communities including Pampa, Borger, Spearman, and Perryton are seeing the most consistent activity early Saturday, while Amarillo and areas farther west begin drying out. U.S. Route 60 and State Highway 70 corridors could see brief visibility drops under heavier cells, though rainfall totals remain generally light with only isolated pockets of moderate intensity.
Emergency managers urge residents to stay weather-aware through 10 a.m., especially those traveling. Keep headlights on in rain, avoid flooded low spots, and monitor alerts on mobile devices as conditions shift quickly.
Storm chances may redevelop later Saturday, with additional updates expected if stronger activity returns to the Panhandle.
