Illinois/Iowa – Calm conditions across the Quad Cities won’t last long as a multi-round storm pattern begins to take shape, with the highest severe risk arriving early next week.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, scattered thunderstorms may begin developing late Monday, especially north of I-80, with rain chances between 20 and 50 percent. While early activity remains limited, lightning and brief gusty winds could impact travel by late evening.
The more concerning period arrives Tuesday into Tuesday night. Meteorologists indicate a Level 2 severe risk across much of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island. Storms during this window could produce damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.
Roadways along I-74, I-80, and U.S. 61 may see reduced visibility and ponding during heavier downpours. Residents should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
This setup is part of a broader active pattern, with several rounds of thunderstorms expected through midweek. While exact timing remains uncertain, repeated storms could increase the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Temperatures will remain warm and humid ahead of the storms, fueling instability across the region.
The window for stronger storms becomes clearer by Tuesday, and additional updates are likely as confidence increases.
