Florida – Bright sun and warming Gulf air are pushing temperatures steadily upward across Tampa this afternoon, setting the stage for the first wave of 90-degree heat in the coming days.

According to the National Weather Service, Tampa climbs to around 85°F today under full sunshine, with light east to northeast winds between 8 and 10 mph. Dry, stable conditions dominate, allowing heat to build efficiently through the afternoon hours .

Roadways like I-275 and I-4 are already seeing shimmering heat off pavement by midday. Outdoor surfaces are warming quickly, especially in urban areas like downtown Tampa and Ybor City. If you’re outside, limit prolonged sun exposure and stay hydrated.

Conditions remain clear into the evening, with temperatures easing into the low 60s. By Sunday, highs rise to near 88°F with continued sunshine. The real shift begins Monday as temperatures approach 89°F, followed by a jump into the low 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

This stretch marks one of the first consistent runs of 90-degree heat this season for the Tampa Bay area. With little cloud cover and light winds, the temps will feel more intense during peak afternoon hours.

Expect dry weather to continue through midweek, with no significant rain chances to cool things down. That means rising pollen levels and increasing heat stress, especially for outdoor workers and events.
