Billings, Montana – Sudden wind gusts up to 40 mph could impact travel across eastern Montana by early evening Saturday as scattered thunderstorms develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, a weak disturbance will trigger showers and isolated thunderstorms beginning this afternoon, with activity increasing between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. across Billings, Miles City, and surrounding areas.

Storm coverage remains scattered, but any thunderstorm could produce erratic wind gusts reaching 40 mph, especially along I-90 from Livingston through Billings and toward Sheridan. Brief downpours are also possible, though widespread heavy rainfall is not expected.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to near 80°F before storms develop, adding instability to the atmosphere. Areas east of Billings, including Forsyth and Miles City, may see storms linger into the overnight hours.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions this evening. While severe weather is not widespread, isolated stronger storms could still disrupt travel and outdoor plans. Conditions are expected to gradually improve late tonight, though additional updates may follow if storms intensify.
