Grand Junction, Colorado – Strong wind gusts up to 50 mph could hit western Colorado by mid-afternoon Saturday as scattered thunderstorms develop, creating hazardous travel along I-70 and exposed desert roadways.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, showers and thunderstorms will continue through the day and into the evening, with the greatest impacts expected between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Gusty outflow winds are the primary concern, though some storms may also produce small hail, brief heavy rain, and frequent lightning.

Communities from Grand Junction to Rifle and down toward Montrose could see rapidly changing conditions, especially near storm cells. Sudden wind gusts may blow debris onto roadways and create dangerous crosswinds for high-profile vehicles, particularly along open stretches of I-70 and U.S. 50.

Temperatures will run slightly cooler than recent days but remain above seasonal averages. Outdoor plans may be disrupted, and residents are urged to secure loose items, avoid exposed areas during lightning, and monitor alerts throughout the afternoon.

Storm activity should taper later tonight, but additional unsettled weather could redevelop into early next week as the pattern remains active.
