St. Louis, Missouri – Rain chances are increasing heading into Sunday afternoon, with scattered showers and thunderstorms expected to impact travel across much of Missouri and western Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, this weekend will not be a washout, but periods of rain are likely, especially Sunday when probabilities climb as high as 75% to 80% in areas like Jefferson City, Quincy, and Columbia. St. Louis and surrounding metro areas could see rain chances between 50% and 75% during the afternoon and evening hours.
Temperatures will warm into the upper 70s to near 80°F Sunday following a warm front, creating a more unstable environment for thunderstorms to develop. Rainfall totals are generally expected to remain light—under a quarter inch for most locations—but localized heavier downpours are possible under stronger storms.
Roads including I-70, I-44, and I-55 may become slick during passing showers, especially during peak travel times Sunday afternoon.
Residents should plan for on-and-off rain, keep an umbrella nearby, and stay alert for changing conditions Sunday. Additional updates are possible if storm coverage increases.
