Dodge City, Kansas – Storms are expected to develop quickly this afternoon, with the strongest cells capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts during the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a 40% to 60% chance of thunderstorms will develop across southwest Kansas, with a 5% to 14% chance that any given storm becomes severe. The greatest threat window is between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., when instability peaks across the region.

Communities including Dodge City, Garden City, Liberal, and Pratt are all under a Level 1 of 5 severe weather risk. The primary hazards include hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 mph, which could down tree limbs and create hazardous driving conditions along U.S. 50 and U.S. 283.

While storms will be scattered, any stronger cell could quickly intensify, producing brief heavy rain and dangerous lightning. Visibility may drop अचानक during downpours, especially during evening travel hours.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, remain weather-aware this afternoon, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings. The severe threat will diminish later tonight, but additional updates are possible if conditions intensify.
