Marquette, Michigan – Rain is set to arrive overnight with enough intensity to create flooding concerns into next week as melting snowpack adds to rising water levels.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, widespread rainfall will develop late tonight and continue through Sunday night, with embedded thunderstorms capable of producing heavier rainfall rates. Overnight lows will fall between 35°F and 40°F before steady rain spreads across the Upper Peninsula by early Sunday morning.

Cities including Marquette, Escanaba, and Houghton could see persistent rain through Sunday, with highs ranging from 55°F to 65°F. Roadways like U.S. 41 and M-28 may become slick, especially during periods of heavier rainfall and reduced visibility.

The bigger concern develops into next week as multiple rounds of rain combine with melting snowpack, increasing the risk for minor to moderate flooding across central and western portions of the U.P. Low-lying areas, rivers, and streams will be most vulnerable.

Residents should clear storm drains, avoid flooded roads, and monitor river levels closely. Additional rounds of rain are expected into early next week, and flood advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
