Birmingham, Alabama – Dry conditions and rising temperatures are intensifying drought concerns across central Alabama, with no meaningful rainfall expected through at least the next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a prolonged stretch of warm and dry weather will dominate the region, with virtually zero chance of significant precipitation over the next seven days. Afternoon highs will steadily climb from the upper 70s Friday into the mid to upper 80s by early next week, with some areasapproaching 90 degrees.
Cities including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Anniston are already seeing worsening drought conditions, with parts of central and southern Alabama classified in severe to extreme drought. The lack of rainfall combined with increasing heat will continue to dry out vegetation, elevating the risk for brush fires.
Light winds will persist, but even modest breezes can help fires spread quickly in these dryconditions. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and limit activities that could create sparks.
The dry pattern is expected to hold through midweek with little relief in sight. Officials warn that additional advisories may be issued if drought and fire risks continue to worsen.
