Iowa–Illinois — Riverbanks swell and muddy water creeps closer to roads near DeWitt. The Wapsipinicon is rising, and the threat is not easing anytime soon.

A Flood Warning remains in effect through April 16 along the Wapsipinicon River, where minor flooding is already occurring and moderate flooding is expected.

Water levels continue to climb slowly. At around 12.5 feet, impacts expand near old U.S. Highway 61. Low-lying farmland is already taking on water.

This is not just a river issue. It’s a travel concern.

Drivers near flood-prone roads should stay alert. Never drive around barricades. Conditions can change quickly, especially near rural crossings.

Right now, skies sit overcast across the Quad Cities, with temperatures near the low 50s. The air feels damp and heavy, and visibility may drop at times.

Showers remain possible through the day, especially early. Roads could turn slick in spots. Plan extra time if heading out.

By later today, conditions improve slightly. Clouds break for some sunshine, and highs reach the upper 50s. It’s a brief break.

Tonight turns quieter with clearing skies and cooler air settling in.

Saturday brings another shift. Showers return, mainly after midday. Rain chances increase again into the evening, keeping the ground saturated.

By Sunday, the atmosphere becomes more active. Showers and thunderstorms develop, with rain chances climbing as high as 80%. Expect wet pavement and reduced visibility.

Meteorologists are now tracking a broader storm pattern across the Midwest. Moist air surging north will fuel repeated rounds of rain.

Looking ahead to early next week, stronger storms are possible. Some could turn severe Monday through Wednesday, especially with already saturated ground.

That raises the flood risk even further.

5-Day Outlook for the Quad Cities (IA/IL):
Saturday: Chance of showers, high near 61°F
Sunday: Showers and storms likely, high near 73°F
Monday: Partly sunny, high near 80°F
Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, high near 82°F
Wednesday: Chance of storms, high near 73°F
