Illinois – Rain is already soaking streets across Chicago, and puddles are building fast as steady showers move through the region heading into the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread rain continues through today with a 100% chance of precipitation and additional rainfall totals reaching up to an inch in some areas. Localized flooding is possible, especially in low-lying spots and along creeks.

Across Chicago, Cicero, and Gary, Indiana, drivers along I-90, I-94, and Lake Shore Drive should expect slick pavement and reduced visibility through the afternoon. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking on wet roads.

Conditions briefly settle later, but clouds linger into Saturday with cooler highs near the upper 40s. That calmer window won’t last long. Meteorologists are now tracking another round of showers returning Saturday night.

Sunday brings a noticeable shift. Warmer air pushes in, lifting highs near 75°F, but breezy conditions and scattered storms may develop by afternoon. Winds could gust over 25 mph, adding to travel concerns.

Looking ahead, the pattern turns more active again. Thunderstorm chances increase into early next week, and forecasters highlight a Level 2 severe risk potential across parts of Illinois and northwest Indiana. Damaging winds and heavy rain are the main concerns.

By Monday, partial sunshine returns with highs near 76°F, offering a short break before more unsettled weather redevelops.
