DeMotte, IN – Two people were arrested Saturday after Jasper County deputies serving a felony warrant at a rural residence north of DeMotte allegedly found both individuals hiding inside a room behind a locked door.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and officers from the DeMotte Police Department went to a residence on Ramsey Road around 10:32 a.m. Saturday to execute a felony arrest warrant for 42-year-old Amber Dovichi.
Deputies initially encountered 28-year-old Aaron Villaroman at the residence. When officers asked whether Dovichi was inside, Villaroman allegedly told them she was not, according to the sheriff’s department.
Authorities said Villaroman then allegedly closed and locked the door, preventing deputies from entering the residence.
Deputies subsequently gained entry and continued searching for Dovichi. Investigators said Dovichi and Villaroman were eventually located allegedly hiding together inside a room behind another locked door.
Both were taken into custody without further incident, according to the sheriff’s department.
Dovichi was arrested on the outstanding felony warrant. Authorities did not specify in the release what alleged offense led to the original warrant.
The Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office will review the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether additional charges are appropriate, authorities said.
The sheriff’s department thanked the DeMotte Police Department for assisting with the operation.
Authorities emphasized that charges are accusations and that suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
