Urbana, IL – Residents may notice an increased police presence around Vineyard Church this week as the Urbana Police Department conducts two days of annual state-mandated active shooter training.
According to the Urbana Police Department, training is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Vineyard Church, 1500 N. Lincoln Ave. Officials emphasized that the activity is a planned training exercise and not an actual emergency.
Police said residents, motorists and businesses near the church may see additional officers, police vehicles and other law enforcement activity throughout both training days.
The annual exercise allows officers to practice and reinforce their response to active threats and other critical incidents in a realistic training environment, according to the department.
Despite the increased law enforcement presence, officials said traffic along North Lincoln Avenue is expected to remain unaffected. No significant traffic disruptions are anticipated because of the exercise.
The department issued the notice in advance to prevent concern among people who may see the additional police activity around the Vineyard Church property.
The training is part of state-mandated law enforcement requirements and is conducted annually. Police said regular exercises help prepare officers to respond effectively to critical incidents and maintain community safety.
Residents traveling through the area Tuesday or Thursday can continue using North Lincoln Avenue normally but should be aware that the additional officers and vehicles are associated with the scheduled exercise.
