Elmhurst, IL Police Seek Suspect After Prairie Path Attack

Police say a woman running on the Illinois Prairie Path was attacked Thursday night.

Elmhurst, IL – Residents near the Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst are being asked to remain vigilant as police search for a man suspected in the reported sexual battery of a woman who was running on the path Thursday night.

According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the incident occurred Thursday between approximately 8:45 and 9 p.m. along the Illinois Prairie Path between York Street and the Pioneer Park area. Police said a woman was battered while running on the path.

Authorities described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 30s who was wearing a red shirt, light-colored cargo shorts and a black cap. Police said he left the area riding an electric scooter equipped with a headlight, traveling west on Vallette Street from York Street.

A nearby public safety camera captured images of the man riding the scooter, according to police. His last known direction of travel was near York Street and Vallette Street.

Police released images from the camera as investigators work to identify and locate the man. Authorities have not announced an arrest as of Friday morning.

An Elmhurst Alert was also sent directly to neighborhoods surrounding the Illinois Prairie Path. Elmhurst is in DuPage County, roughly 15 miles west of downtown Chicago.

Residents who believe they see the suspect are asked to call 911. Police are also seeking information that could help identify him, including home security camera footage from the area around the time of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
