KENOSHA COUNTY, WI — Authorities are investigating a fatal incident involving a pedestrian and a train that occurred Thursday morning along the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks.

The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Kirk R. Sax. A railroad worker reportedly discovered Sax unresponsive near the tracks in the 3800 block and contacted emergency services immediately.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and rescue personnel responded to the scene at approximately 10:03 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officials confirmed that Sax was deceased. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office were both called to the location to assist in the death investigation.

Evidence and scene evaluations conducted by investigators suggest that Sax was allegedly struck by a moving train. Authorities are currently looking into whether he allegedly attempted to board the moving train or if he accidentally fell between the train cars.

While the investigation remains ongoing, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office stated that there is currently no evidence to suggest any criminal activity was involved.

“Our thoughts are with Mr. Sax’s family during this difficult time,” Sheriff David W. Zoerner said in a released statement. “Any loss of life is tragic, and we extend our condolences as they navigate this heartbreaking situation.”

No further details regarding the circumstances of the incident have been released at this time.
