Springfield, IL – Illinois drivers completing certain vehicle title and registration transactions in Springfield can now pay required state vehicle taxes at the same facility, eliminating the need for additional steps or trips to another agency.

According to Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias’ office, the Illinois Department of Revenue now has a permanent office inside the Springfield Flagship Center at 2701 S. Dirksen Parkway.

The change allows customers handling qualifying transactions to pay vehicle use taxes and complete key portions of the title and registration process during a single visit.

Previously, some customers had to complete separate steps to meet state tax requirements. People registering a vehicle for the first time in their name were also required to bring a check or money order for payment.

At the new Department of Revenue office, customers can pay applicable vehicle use taxes with cash, check, money order, debit card or credit card.

“When we launched the Springfield Flagship Center, the goal was clear: create a modern, customer-focused facility that makes government services easier to access and easier to navigate,” Giannoulias said.

The service covers several state tax forms involving vehicles purchased from private parties and unregistered out-of-state dealers, along with lease and other registered vehicle transactions.

Officials recommend customers bring all required paperwork, including vehicle titles, bills of sale and completed tax forms, to avoid processing delays.

The Springfield location is the second Department of Revenue satellite office opened in partnership with the Secretary of State’s office, following a location established at the Chicago Flagship facility earlier this year.

The Springfield IDOR office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
