Elmhurst, IL – A heavy police presence in Elmhurst early Thursday is beginning to scale back after officers took one suspect into custody, but an active search remains underway near a major suburban corridor.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the incident began around 4:30 a.m. when a suspect vehicle tied to a burglary was pursued into the area. The vehicle crashed near York and Lake Streets, prompting a search after one suspect fled on foot toward a wooded area just east of Interstate 290.
Police confirmed a member of the public spotted one suspect around 6:10 a.m., leading to a safe arrest near Willow and Gladys Streets. Authorities have since canceled the broader public alert, but officers continue searching for a second suspect believed to be in the same general area.
K9 units and public safety drones are actively being used to search wooded sections and nearby neighborhoods. Residents in Elmhurst and surrounding DuPage County communities are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
The second suspect is described as a Black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and white shoes. Police say the situation remains contained, but updates will be provided as the search continues.
