Raleigh, North Carolina – Tornado activity is ramping up along the East Coast, with 31 twisters already reported from Florida to New York in 2026 as severe weather spreads beyond traditional hotspots.

According to preliminary National Weather Service data, states along the Atlantic corridor—including Georgia (15), North Carolina (8), South Carolina (5), Florida (1), New York (1), and Pennsylvania (1)—have combined for a growing share of the 297 tornadoes reported nationwide through early April.

The increase reflects a shifting spring pattern, where strong storm systems moving east interact with warm, moisture-rich air along the coast. This setup has already triggered multiple severe weather events from the Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic.

Cities including Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Philadelphia have all faced rounds of strong storms capable of producing brief but impactful tornadoes, often embedded within fast-moving lines of thunderstorms.

Emergency officials warn that East Coast tornadoes can develop quickly and with little visibility, especially during overnight hours or heavy rain events.

Residents are urged to review safety plans, enable emergency alerts, and identify sturdy shelter locations now. With peak severe weather season still ahead, the Atlantic Coast could see additional tornado threats in the coming weeks.
