Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Temperatures dropping into the 20s overnight could damage plants and create slick early morning conditions before a rapid warm-up and fire risk develop Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, widespread frost and freezing temperatures are expected overnight into early Thursday, especially in inland areas across southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and northern Delaware. Lows will fall into the mid-20s to mid-30s, with the coldest conditions arriving between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.

By Thursday afternoon, conditions flip quickly. Highs climb into the 50s and low 60s, but low humidity and gusty winds will increase the risk of fire spread, particularly northwest of Interstate 95, including areas like Reading, Allentown, and Lancaster.

Philadelphia, Camden, and Wilmington will see improving daytime conditions, but residents should remain cautious with any outdoor ignition sources.

Thursday night turns less cold, with lows settling into the 30s and patchy frost still possible. A stronger warming trend continues Friday, with highs reaching into the 60s and low 70s under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should protect sensitive plants tonight and remain alert for elevated fire danger Thursday afternoon.
