Omaha, Nebraska – Outdoor plans across eastern Nebraska could turn dangerous within hours Thursday as severe storms begin developing after 2 p.m., bringing the threat of large hail and damaging winds into the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the highest risk zone stretches along the Nebraska-Kansas border, including areas near Beatrice and Falls City, where storms may produce hail up to 1.75 inches and wind gusts reaching 65 mph. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out in this region.

Storms are expected to intensify between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., tracking east toward Lincoln, Omaha, and communities along the I-80 corridor. Additional development is possible farther north and south through the evening, extending impacts until around 10 p.m.

Drivers should prepare for sudden visibility drops, strong crosswinds, and debris on roadways, especially on highways like I-80 and U.S. 75. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings, including weather alerts on mobile devices.

The severe threat diminishes later Thursday night, but additional updates are expected as conditions evolve.
