Ashville, OH – A 14-year-old student was hospitalized Tuesday morning after an alleged stabbing incident connected to a disturbance at a nearby residence that quickly unfolded inside Teays Valley High School.
According to the Pickaway County Sheriffโs Office and Ashville Police Department, the incident began around 8:55 a.m. Tuesday when the Pickaway County Communications Center received a 911 call from a man reporting his brother had allegedly stabbed another person with a pocketknife. Authorities say deputies and Ashville police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Ashton Woods Drive in Ashville.
According to investigators, shortly after deputies were sent to the home, a Teays Valley School Resource Officer reported a stabbing victim had arrived in the lobby of Teays Valley High School. Harrison Township Fire and EMS responded and transported the 14-year-old victim to Nationwide Childrenโs Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said officers simultaneously arrived at the Ashton Woods Drive residence where a 16-year-old identified as Daniel L. Hazard allegedly came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident.
According to investigators, detectives determined the alleged stabbing happened during a struggle inside the residence between the suspect and the 14-year-old victim. Officials said the victim had not been at the residence long before the altercation allegedly occurred and reportedly was stabbed multiple times.
Authorities said the victim and three witnesses fled the home and ran to the nearby high school where they located the school resource officer and reported the incident.
Hazard was transported to the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster and charged with felonious assault, which authorities said would be a second-degree felony if committed by an adult. The incident remains under investigation by the Ashville Police Department and Pickaway County Sheriffโs Office.
