LAS VEGAS — A $1,000-per-month tiny home development might be a solution to the region’s worsening housing affordability crisis.

For a long time, the Las Vegas metropolitan area has been one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. Real estate experts link this growth trend to population growth, job expansion, and high demand amongst a limited housing supply. With limited supply, housing affordability remains a crisis, with home prices rising 53% since 2019. A report from the Guinn Center revealed that nearly half of Nevada residents spend 35% or more of their gross monthly income on housing costs.

A tiny home development approved by the Las Vegas City Council could offer part of a solution. Led by Accelerated Real Estate, Sunridge on Searles is a $6 million project that will see about 50 custom tiny homes constructed on a 2.25-acre site. Units will be made from Boxabl materials, a tech company that specializes in factory-built, foldable modular housing. Boxabl CEO Paolo Tiramani shared:

“The purpose of Boxabl is to solve the housing crisis through technology and scale, and this is certainly on mission.”

Each unit will be 360 square feet and is expected to rent for $1,000 per month, which includes utilities. City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz told FOX5 she welcomes the development, saying, “We want to see attainable housing opportunities, and we want to see ending homelessness in our community. The way to do that is to ensure that we offer more affordable housing opportunities to our community.”

Developers plan to complete the homes by late 2026 or early 2027.
