Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Rain returns to the Ohio Valley within the next 24 hours, but widespread flooding is not expected as rivers continue to fall from earlier high water.
According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, precipitation will redevelop Thursday into Friday, mainly north of the Ohio River, including western Pennsylvania and parts of Ohio and northern West Virginia. Most locations are expected to receive less than 0.25 inches of rainfall, though isolated storms could produce localized totals near 1 inch.
River gauges across the region remain elevated from recent rainfall, but forecasters say levels are already trending downward and will continue to recede through the end of the week. Current projections show no new flooding concerns tied to this next round of rain.
In Allegheny County and surrounding areas, minor ponding on roads could occur during heavier showers, especially in low-lying or poor drainage locations. Commuters should watch for brief visibility reductions during passing storms Thursday afternoon into early evening.
While the rainfall is relatively light, residents are still encouraged to monitor local waterways and avoid driving through standing water.
Additional updates will be issued if rainfall totals trend higher or river conditions change.
