Stafford, Virginia – Drivers in Stafford County will need to reroute overnight travel immediately, as Route 677 (Mt. Hope Church Road) closes at 8 p.m. each night this week for railroad maintenance that could disrupt early morning commutes.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation and CSX, the closure affects the railroad crossing on Mt. Hope Church Road from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights. Crews will be performing maintenance work directly at the crossing, requiring a full closure to traffic.

The impacted area sits near key local routes used by residents and overnight drivers, and detours may be necessary during closure hours. Motorists traveling through Stafford or connecting toward Fredericksburg should plan alternate routes in advance to avoid delays.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through the work zone if needed, but all other traffic will be restricted during active work hours.

The overnight closures are expected to end by early Friday morning, though additional updates may be issued if work schedules change.
