Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Drivers and early commuters could face frost-covered windshields by sunrise Thursday as temperatures plunge into the upper 20s across the region tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, highs today will struggle into the mid-40s to mid-50s despite full sunshine, with lighter winds offering little relief from the chilly air. By late evening, temperatures will drop quickly, setting the stage for widespread frost development across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
Philadelphia is expected to fall to around 31°F overnight, while colder suburbs including Allentown, Reading, and parts of South Jersey dip into the upper 20s. Coastal areas such as Atlantic City may stay slightly milder near the mid-30s, but frost remains likely inland.
The cold snap could impact early travel Thursday, especially on untreated bridges and overpasses. Gardeners should cover sensitive plants, and residents are urged to bring pets indoors and check heating systems.
Conditions begin to improve Thursday afternoon with a warming trend into the 60s, followed by milder weather heading into the weekend. Additional updates may be issued if frost advisories expand overnight.
