Orlando, Florida – Wind gusts up to 45 mph and bands of heavy rain are already impacting parts of east-central Florida, creating hazardous travel and life-threatening beach conditions through this evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Wind Advisory remains in effect today with sustained northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph and peak gusts between 35 and 45 mph. The advisory, initially focused along the coast, is expanding inland through the afternoon, including Orlando, Kissimmee, and surrounding communities.
A Flood Watch continues through 10 p.m. for Volusia, Brevard, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties, where an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected. Isolated areas could see up to 5 inches where repeated downpours occur, raising the risk of street flooding and water-covered roads along major corridors like I-95 and U.S. 1.
Along the coast, conditions are especially dangerous. Surf heights of 9 to 12 feet and a high rip current risk are in place at all central Florida Atlantic beaches. Officials urge residents and visitors to stay out of the ocean, as strong currents can pull even experienced swimmers away from shore.
Boaters face hazardous conditions with rough seas and gale-force gusts. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and use caution while driving, especially in high-profile vehicles.
Conditions may gradually improve later this week, but advisories remain in effect through tonight with additional updates possible.
