Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Drivers across southern Wisconsin could encounter slick roads during the early morning commute as a brief wintry mix creates a light glaze of ice before temperatures climb above freezing.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, showers moving through the region early this morning may include a mix of rain, snow, and light freezing rain—especially north of I-94. A temporary glaze of ice is possible on elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses through about 5:30 a.m.
Conditions are expected to improve quickly after sunrise as temperatures rise above freezing, changing all precipitation over to plain rain. Cities including Madison, Janesville, and Milwaukee may still see wet roads, but the ice threat will diminish rapidly.
The greatest concern remains in areas north of the I-94 corridor, where colder surface temperatures could briefly allow ice to form before warming takes hold. Even a thin glaze can create hazardous driving conditions, particularly on untreated roads.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and use caution on bridges during the early commute window. Road conditions should steadily improve through the morning as warmer air moves in, though scattered showers will linger.
