Springfield, Missouri – A multi-day stretch of storms is set to take hold within the next 48 hours, raising concerns for flooding across much of Missouri through early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will begin late Friday and continue through Tuesday, with the greatest flooding potential centered from southern Missouri into the mid-Mississippi Valley. Rainfall will become more widespread by Monday and Tuesday as a stronger system moves through.

Communities along the I-44 corridor, including Springfield, Joplin, and Rolla, could see repeated downpours that lead to rapid water accumulation. Low-lying roads, small creeks, and flood-prone areas are most at risk, especially where storms track over the same locations. Urban areas may experience ponding on roadways during heavier bursts.

While exact totals remain uncertain, the multi-day setup increases the likelihood of river rises and localized flooding. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and monitor conditions closely, especially during overnight hours when visibility is reduced.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive alerts as conditions evolve. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as confidence in rainfall totals increases through the weekend.
