Hawaii – Rain is pounding parts of the Big Island right now, with thick mist, reduced visibility, and water pooling on roads in and around Hilo.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a Flood Watch remains in effect for all Hawaiian Islands through Friday afternoon, while a Flash Flood Warning is active for Hawaii County. Radar shows rainfall rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour in some areas, especially near Puna and Kaʻū districts, where flooding is already developing .

In Hilo, steady downpours are soaking roadways like Highway 11 and low-lying streets near the bay. Drivers should expect water-covered pavement and sudden drops in visibility. Some areas may flood quickly, especially near streams and drainage channels. Avoid driving through standing water. It only takes a few inches to stall a vehicle.

Emergency officials warn that landslides are possible along steep terrain, particularly on the windward slopes areas. Volcano, Mountain View, and Pāhala could see runoff intensify through the afternoon. If you live near hillsides, stay alert for shifting ground or debris.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Thursday and Friday, with repeated rounds of heavy rain. മഴ chances remain high at 80%, and additional rainfall could quickly overwhelm already saturated areas.

Five Day Outlook for Hilo, HI:
Thursday: Heavy rain, high near 78°F
Friday: Heavy rain, high near 78°F
Saturday: Showers, some heavy, high near 81°F
Sunday: Scattered showers, high near 80°F
