Lyons, Colorado – Residents west of Lyons may see low-flying aircraft and water drops beginning around 10 a.m. Wednesday as fire training operations take place near Hall Ranch and Coffin Top Mountain.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) will conduct pilot training exercises in the area, including one or two water drops depending on conditions.

The activity is scheduled for late morning hours and may result in increased aircraft presence over nearby areas, including foothill communities and open space west of Lyons. The aircraft involved is commonly used in wildfire response and training scenarios.

Officials emphasize this is planned training and not an emergency. No evacuations or fire activity are associated with the operation.

Residents and hikers in the area should remain aware of overhead aircraft and avoid approaching drop zones. Brief noise increases and visible water release from aircraft are expected during the exercise.

Training is expected to wrap up later in the day, with no further impacts anticipated beyond increased air traffic during the operation window.
