Fogelsville, PA – Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania are renewing calls for information in a long-unsolved fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Lehigh County man more than a decade ago, with investigators offering a $5,000 reward for tips that could help solve the case.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Troop M in Fogelsville, the fatal crash occurred Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at approximately 7:50 p.m. along Hamilton Boulevard (State Route 222) near the intersection with Kressler Road in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County.
Investigators said 36-year-old Michael J. Mason was allegedly struck by an unknown vehicle while walking southbound along the west berm of SR 222. A passing driver reportedly discovered Mason at about 7:54 p.m. lying along the shoulder of the roadway.
Authorities said Mason was wearing a reflective safety vest along with dark-colored clothing at the time he was discovered. Despite those precautions, police said an unknown unit allegedly struck the victim and left the scene without stopping.
Troopers said fragments of evidence were recovered from the victim’s clothing, including metallic pink, red and purple paint as well as pieces of glass believed to have come from the suspect vehicle. Investigators believe those materials could help identify the vehicle allegedly involved in the crash.
The vehicle that allegedly struck Mason was traveling southbound on Hamilton Boulevard at the time of the incident, according to investigators.
Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the case as a fatal hit-and-run and are asking anyone with information to come forward. Authorities said even small details could help identify the driver allegedly responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Lengvarsky at the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville station at 610-395-1438 or submit a tip through PSP Tips at 1-800-472-8477. Tips can also be submitted online through the PSP tip portal.
Officials said callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest or helps solve the case.
