Chicago Weather Alert: 30–50% Rain Chance Builds by Thursday With Storms Into Weekend

Chicago, IL – A chilly start across northern Illinois today will quickly transition into a warmer and more unsettled pattern, with rain and possible thunderstorms returning by late week.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, highs today will remain cool, ranging from 36°F near Lake Michigan to the upper 40s inland, with partly cloudy skies and a brisk feel. Overnight lows will drop into the upper 20s to mid-30s, keeping conditions cold into early Wednesday.

By Wednesday, temperatures rebound into the low to upper 60s, though breezy conditions will develop across the region. Cities including Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, and Naperville will see increasing cloud cover ahead of the next system.

Rain chances begin to rise Thursday, with a 30% to 50% chance of showers and possible thunderstorms continuing into Friday. Roads along I-90, I-55, and Lake Shore Drive could become slick during periods of rain, especially during peak travel times.

By Saturday, additional scattered showers remain possible, with highs ranging from the low 50s near the lake to upper 60s inland.

Residents should prepare for changing conditions, from chilly mornings to wetter commutes later this week, with additional advisories possible as storm chances increase.
