Raleigh, NC – A cool start this morning is giving way to a mild afternoon across central North Carolina, but temperatures will drop quickly again tonight, bringing a chilly overnight for many communities.
According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, highs will reach between 66°F and 70°F this afternoon under partly sunny skies, with cities like Greensboro near 66°F, Raleigh around 68°F, and Fayetteville close to 70°F. Despite the sunshine, temperatures remain slightly below seasonal averages.
Conditions stay quiet through the evening, but temperatures will fall steadily after sunset. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid to upper 30s, including around 36°F in Greensboro, 38°F in Raleigh, and near 40°F in Fayetteville.
While widespread frost is not expected, cooler pockets in rural and outlying areas could briefly approach conditions favorable for patchy frost before sunrise.
