Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois and northwest Indiana face several rounds of thunderstorms beginning Thursday and continuing through the weekend, bringing the potential for changing travel conditions and repeated periods of rain across the Chicago region.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, additional waves of storms are likely to affect the region through Sunday. Thunderstorm chances Thursday range from 40% to 80% during the day and 30% to 80% Thursday night, with the highest nighttime chances near and south of Interstate 88.
Thursday will also be the coolest near Lake Michigan, with highs ranging from 76 to 84 degrees. Overnight lows are expected to fall between 63 and 69 degrees.
Storm chances continue Friday, particularly during the morning. The National Weather Service forecasts a 30% to 70% chance during the day and a 40% to 70% chance Friday night. High temperatures will range from 76 to 85 degrees.
Saturday brings another 30% to 70% chance of daytime storms, mainly during the morning. At night, chances range from 20% to 60%, with the greatest potential north of Interstate 80. Highs could reach 89 degrees.
By Sunday, storm chances decrease somewhat but remain in the forecast. The highest nighttime chances are expected mainly southeast of Interstate 55.
Drivers across Chicago, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana should monitor conditions before weekend trips because thunderstorms can quickly produce reduced visibility, wet pavement and localized travel disruptions.
