Eureka, Calif. – Rain pushes back into Northern California by Wednesday afternoon, with wet roads and isolated lightning threatening inland travel within hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, rain chances climb from 30% Wednesday morning to as high as 65% by Thursday afternoon across Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties. Thunderstorms are most likely inland, including areas near Willow Creek, Weaverville, and Trinity Center, especially between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday.
Coastal cities such as Eureka, Crescent City, and Fort Bragg will see steadier light rain, though a 10% to 15% chance of thunderstorms could still develop over coastal waters and briefly move onshore late Thursday into Friday. Drivers along U.S. Highway 101 and State Route 299 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick conditions during heavier bursts.
Rain continues into Friday with widespread chances between 50% and 65% across inland Mendocino and Lake counties, including Ukiah, Lakeport, and Clearlake. Brief downpours and isolated lightning could disrupt outdoor plans and create minor roadway ponding.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, allow extra travel time, and avoid exposed ridgelines during thunderstorms.
Showers taper heading into the weekend, but additional updates are expected as storm timing becomes clearer through Friday.
