Western, NY – Three people were hospitalized after a pickup truck left Quaker Hill Road, struck a guardrail and went down an embankment before hitting a tree Thursday night in Oneida County, authorities said.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, Road Patrol deputies were dispatched to the one-vehicle crash on Quaker Hill Road in the town of Western at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7.
Deputies determined a 23-year-old Annsville man was driving a 2011 Dodge pickup south on Quaker Hill Road when he allegedly failed to keep right because of unsafe speed. The sheriff’s office said the truck crossed the northbound lane before leaving the shoulder.
The pickup then collided with a guardrail, traveled down an earth embankment and came to rest after striking a tree, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver and two passengers, a 23-year-old Annsville woman and a 29-year-old Oriskany woman, were transported by AmCare Ambulance to Wynn Hospital. Authorities said all three suffered injuries considered non-life-threatening.
The sheriff’s office said the driver was issued traffic citations that will be returnable to Western Town Court at a later date. The agency did not specify the individual citations in its initial announcement.
New York State Police, the Western Fire Department and AmCare Ambulance assisted the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office at the crash scene.
Drivers in the area should use caution on rural roads and adjust their speed for roadway conditions, particularly at night.
