South Bend, IN – Three people were wounded in an overnight shooting at Eddy Street Commons early Saturday as several hundred people were in the popular South Bend development, police said.
According to the South Bend Police Department, officers heard gunfire coming from the Eddy Street Commons area around 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The location is near the University of Notre Dame in St. Joseph County and is part of the greater South Bend-Mishawaka area.
Officers ultimately located two shooting victims at the scene. Police said one was found near the 1100 block of East Angela Boulevard, while another was located just south on Eddy Street.
Dispatchers later notified officers that a third shooting victim had gone to a hospital without being transported by emergency responders, according to police.
All three victims suffered injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. Despite several hundred people being at Eddy Street Commons when the shooting occurred, police said no additional injuries had been reported as of Saturday afternoon.
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation. Detectives are conducting interviews and processing evidence as they work to determine what led to the gunfire.
Police described the investigation as active and ongoing. The department’s update did not announce any arrests or provide information about a possible suspect.
