DuPage County, IL – Four individuals are facing serious felony charges after allegedly fleeing from police in separate incidents across DuPage County, with prosecutors emphasizing a sharp rise in these dangerous encounters.

According to the DuPage County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, the incidents occurred between Tuesday and Monday across multiple jurisdictions, including Addison, West Chicago, Willowbrook and along Interstate 88. Authorities said each defendant allegedly attempted to evade law enforcement, in some cases reaching speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour and placing the public at risk.

Prosecutors announced that all four defendants have been charged with at least one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, a Class 4 felony, along with additional misdemeanor and petty traffic offenses. In each case, judges granted motions to deny pre-trial release, meaning the defendants will remain in custody as proceedings continue.

Officials allege Ivan Rankins, 25, fled police Saturday, March 28, reaching speeds over 110 mph before abandoning his vehicle. Angelo Navarro, 20, allegedly led officers on a high-speed pursuit Tuesday through Addison, reportedly ignoring traffic controls and entering oncoming lanes. Carlos Barrera, 20, allegedly fled West Chicago police Saturday, at one point striking a police vehicle, while also allegedly possessing a weapon unlawfully. Dionna Curtis, 41, allegedly attempted to evade a state trooper early Monday on I-88, with authorities alleging impairment and reckless driving behavior.

DuPage County Stateโ€™s Attorney Robert Berlin said the spike in fleeing cases is a growing public safety concern, noting a significant increase over recent years. Law enforcement agencies involved credited coordinated efforts and advanced resources for safely apprehending the suspects.

Authorities reiterated that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
