Harrisonville, MO – A Kansas City man wanted on two active warrants was taken into custody after deputies say he fled an attempted traffic stop, drove through a field, crashed and abandoned his vehicle near Harrisonville.
According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Criminal Apprehension Unit attempted to stop a vehicle at approximately 9:07 p.m. Thursday near Southwest Outer Road and East 327th Street. Authorities said the vehicle was not displaying registration.
When a deputy activated emergency lights, the driver allegedly accelerated northbound instead of stopping.
The Sheriff’s Office said the driver eventually lost control and spun out near Horn Road but continued traveling through a field parallel to the roadway. The vehicle then traveled east and south as deputies continued the pursuit.
A separate deputy later found the vehicle empty after it had crashed near Southeast Outer Road.
Authorities requested assistance from the Harrisonville Police Department’s K-9 Unit. Working with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office unmanned aerial vehicle unit, officers located the suspect.
Deputies identified him as Chandler Griffith, 27, of Kansas City.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Griffith had two active warrants. One included two felony charges from Barry County, while the other was a misdemeanor warrant from Platte County.
Griffith was taken into custody and booked into the Cass County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office said additional charges stemming from Thursday night’s incident were pending at the time of its update. Authorities did not report whether anyone was injured during the pursuit or crash.
Any pending charges related to the pursuit are allegations. Griffith is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
