Washington, DC – Temperatures will drop into the mid-20s late Tuesday night, creating a widespread freeze threat across the Mid-Atlantic that could damage crops and impact the Wednesday morning routine.

According to the National Weather Service, Freeze Watches are in effect from late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning across Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Temperatures are expected to fall between 24°F and 31°F, with the coldest readings inland just before sunrise.

The freeze zone stretches along the I-95 corridor, including Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Trenton, with surrounding suburbs facing the highest risk. Inland areas such as Harrisburg, Lancaster, and western Maryland could see temperatures closer to 24°F, increasing the likelihood of widespread frost and plant damage.

This late-season cold snap poses a significant threat to early spring vegetation, especially flowering trees and crops already in bloom. Outdoor plumbing may also be at risk if left unprotected.

Residents should cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and insulate exposed pipes before midnight Tuesday. Temperatures will rebound after mid-morning Wednesday, but additional freeze alerts remain possible as clear skies continue to allow rapid overnight cooling.
