Henrico, VA – One person died Thursday after a two-vehicle crash involving an overturned dump truck on northbound Interstate 295 in Henrico County, state police said.
According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded at approximately 11:33 a.m. to the crash near mile marker 19. Images released by the agency showed a large dump truck overturned across part of the roadway, with debris and dirt scattered near the vehicle.
One person succumbed to injuries at the scene, authorities said. Troopers were working Thursday afternoon to identify the person and notify the individual’s next of kin before publicly releasing a name.
Police did not immediately provide details about how the crash occurred, the type of second vehicle involved or whether anyone else was injured. The investigation remained active as emergency crews and law enforcement personnel worked at the scene.
Motorists traveling through Henrico County and the greater Richmond area were told to expect delays along northbound I-295. Drivers were encouraged to monitor the Virginia Department of Transportation for current information about detours, lane restrictions and reopening times.
Travelers approaching the affected area should reduce speed, watch for emergency vehicles and consider an alternate route until cleanup and investigative work are completed.
No estimated time for clearing the scene was included in the initial announcement. Additional information is expected after investigators complete their preliminary review and the victim’s family has been notified.
