Monee, IL – Three masked burglary suspects remained at large Thursday after allegedly stealing two cash boxes from a gaming cafe and fleeing police on Interstate 57 in Chicago’s south suburbs.
According to the Village of Monee Police Department, the break-in occurred at approximately 6:10 a.m. Thursday at Lacy’s gaming cafe in the 5600 block of Monee Manhattan Road.
Police said three male suspects wearing all-black clothing, hoodies and masks allegedly entered the business and removed two cash boxes. Authorities did not disclose how the suspects entered the cafe or how much money may have been inside the boxes.
Monee officers encountered the suspects as they allegedly fled in a late-model Audi sedan, prompting a pursuit northbound on I-57, the department said.
The pursuit continued until high speeds and heavy traffic near the I-80 interchange created what police described as a safety concern. Officers then terminated the pursuit to reduce the risk to other motorists.
No injuries were reported in the department’s initial media release. Police also did not provide a license plate number, Audi model, vehicle color or more detailed descriptions of the three suspects.
The investigation remained active Thursday afternoon. Authorities had not announced any arrests or said whether surveillance images from the business or surrounding area were available.
The incident occurred near Monee in Will County, roughly 35 miles south of downtown Chicago. Drivers who were traveling north on I-57 around 6:10 a.m. may have witnessed the Audi or the police pursuit.
