Pennsylvania – A stretch of colder-than-normal air is settling across Philadelphia, and within the next 48 hours, temperatures will drop low enough to trigger frost and freeze concerns across parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, overnight lows Wednesday and Thursday morning could fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, especially across southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Delmarva Peninsula. Areas where the growing season has begun face the highest risk for frost damage.

Across Philadelphia, Trenton, Wilmington, and surrounding suburbs, daytime highs will remain below average through midweek, generally in the 50s to low 60s. Overnight, the coldest pockets—particularly away from urban centers—could dip below 32°F, putting early-season vegetation at risk.

Gardeners and homeowners should take action now. Cover sensitive plants or bring them indoors ahead of the overnight cold. While road impacts are not expected, early morning temperatures may feel sharply colder during commutes, especially with light winds.

A few light showers are possible northwest of the I-95 corridor tonight, but most of the week stays dry with clear skies enhancing overnight cooling.

Relief arrives by the weekend as temperatures rebound into the upper 60s and low 70s, signaling a return to more typical spring conditions.

Prepare for chilly mornings now before the warmer air returns. Are you seeing those colder overnight temperatures already where you are?
