Arizona’s high country is turning unsettled fast, with gray skies lowering over Flagstaff and rain beginning to move in, setting up slick roads and reduced visibility within the next few hours.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are starting near 39°F and will climb only to about 57°F today as showers become likely, with rain chances reaching 70% and even a slight chance of thunderstorms developing by midday.
Across Coconino County and along I-40 and Route 89, drivers should prepare for wet pavement and changing visibility through the afternoon. Gusty winds up to 18 mph may add to the challenge, especially on open stretches and higher elevations.
By this evening, showers continue with around a 50% chance of additional rain before skies begin to gradually clear. As colder air settles in, temperatures drop sharply to near 31°F. That raises concern for flash freezing on untreated roads, especially where daytime moisture lingers.
Tuesday brings a sharp turnaround. Sunshine returns with highs near 69°F, helping dry out roads and improve travel conditions across northern Arizona. Calm winds and clear skies continue into midweek.
By Wednesday, temperatures hold near 69°F again under sunny skies, offering a brief stretch of stable spring weather before another slight chance of showers returns later in the week.
Plan for wet travel today and be cautious tonight as temperatures fall quickly. Watch for icy patches early the next morning.
