Detroit, Mich. – Southeast Michigan will squeeze in one more warm, mostly dry summer day Friday before a wetter pattern settles in for the weekend, bringing repeated rounds of showers, thunderstorms and the potential for localized heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, increasing clouds will develop Friday with afternoon temperatures climbing to around 90 degrees across much of the region. Dry conditions will dominate through most of the day, but a chance of showers arrives after midnight Friday night as the next weather system approaches.
Rain becomes much more widespread on Saturday, when showers are likely and thunderstorms develop across southeast Michigan. Forecasters say some storms could produce localized heavy rainfall, creating ponding on roads and reduced visibility during periods of heavier downpours. Rain chances increase to 50% to 70% during the day before climbing to 70% to 80% Saturday night.
The unsettled pattern continues Sunday with another round of showers and thunderstorms likely. High temperatures will cool into the upper 70s, providing relief from Friday’s heat but creating a damp end to the weekend.
Communities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Flint, Warren, Dearborn, Monroe and Port Huron should prepare for changing travel conditions through the weekend. Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, avoid driving through flooded roadways and seek shelter immediately if thunderstorms develop.
Drier and cooler conditions are expected to begin returning after the weekend as the storm system exits the region.
