Indianapolis, Indiana – Indiana residents can expect another stretch of warm, quiet weather through Friday before a widespread round of showers and thunderstorms arrives late Friday and continues through much of the weekend. While severe weather is not anticipated, periods of heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding, especially Friday night into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Indianapolis and Northern Indiana, today will be sunny and seasonably warm with afternoon highs ranging from 82 to 87 degrees across much of the state. Dry conditions will provide excellent travel weather along Interstates 65, 69, 70, 74, 80, and 94, with no significant weather-related disruptions expected.
Rain chances begin increasing Friday evening, first across northern Indiana before expanding south and east overnight. Highs Friday will again reach 82 to 87 degrees, but clouds will steadily increase through the day. Northern Indiana has a 60 to 75 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday night into Saturday, with the highest chances west of Interstate 69 early before spreading east after midnight.
Saturday will be the wettest day statewide. According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, rain chances climb to around 90 percent, and periods of heavy rainfall may produce localized flooding, particularly in urban and low-lying areas. Temperatures will cool into the 75 to 80 degree range across northern Indiana, with similar conditions expected across central portions of the state.
Rain and storm chances decrease Sunday, although scattered showers remain possible, especially south of U.S. Highway 24 in northern Indiana during the afternoon. Highs will range from 76 to 83 degrees with breezy conditions. By Monday, only isolated showers remain possible as temperatures begin to recover.
