Columbus, Ohio – Drivers and utility crews across Ohio are bracing for a 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday storm window that could bring wind gusts over 60 mph, capable of downing trees and knocking out power in multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Level 2 out of 5 severe storm risk now stretches across most of the state as a cold front pushes through. Forecasters say damaging straight-line winds are the primary hazard, though isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out during the late afternoon and evening hours.

Central Ohio, including Columbus, Dayton, and Springfield, sits in the core risk zone where storms could intensify quickly after 2 p.m. Along the I-70 and I-71 corridors, sudden wind bursts may reduce visibility and scatter debris, creating hazardous driving conditions. Western counties could see the strongest cells first before activity shifts east toward Newark and Zanesville by early evening.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Power outages may impact thousands if stronger wind bands develop.

Storm intensity and coverage remain uncertain, but additional warnings could be issued quickly through Saturday night.
