Phoenix, Arizona – A rare combination of early-season heat and incoming moisture is set to bring both storm chances and localized flooding concerns across Arizona through Sunday, April 12th.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Arizona will see near to slightly above-normal precipitation during this stretch, with rainfall totals between 0.50 and 1 inch possible, especially across central and southern areas. At the same time, above-normal temperatures will push highs into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees, marking one of the first significant heat waves of the season.
Across Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties, brief but intense downpours could lead to rapid runoff and ponding on roadways, particularly in low-lying and urban areas. Drivers along I-10, Loop 101, and I-17 should prepare for sudden visibility drops and slick conditions during passing storms. Officials urge caution in flood-prone washes where water levels can rise quickly.
In Phoenix, the combination of heat and storm chances may disrupt outdoor plans, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. Tucson and surrounding areas will see similar conditions, with isolated storms capable of producing brief heavy rain and gusty winds.
This pattern is expected to continue through April 12th, with additional advisories possible if storm coverage increases or heat intensifies further.
