Sacramento, California – Residents across Northern California have a few more days of near-seasonal temperatures before a steady warming trend pushes much of the Sacramento Valley back into widespread triple-digit heat by the end of the week. Anyone with outdoor plans should prepare now, as afternoon temperatures will continue climbing each day and increase the risk of heat-related illness.
According to the National Weather Service Sacramento, temperatures will remain close to normal through early this week before a noticeable warmup begins around midweek. Forecasters expect widespread Moderate HeatRisk by the end of the week, with the hottest conditions centered in the Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills.
Redding is expected to be among the hottest locations, with afternoon highs rising from around 99 degrees Sunday to 107 degrees by Saturday. Red Bluff follows a similar trend, climbing to 104 degrees, while Chico reaches approximately 103 degrees by Saturday afternoon.
The Sacramento metro area is forecast to warm from the lower 90s early in the week to around 100 degrees by Saturday. Stockton and Vacaville are expected to approach the upper 90s, while Modesto could reach around 100 degrees. Auburn is forecast to climb into the upper 90s, and Marysville is expected to top out near 102 degrees.
As temperatures rise, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon, drink plenty of water, check on older adults and neighbors, and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles. Workers spending extended time outdoors should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned locations.
The National Weather Service says the warming trend is expected to continue through the end of the week, and additional heat-related advisories could be issued if temperatures trend even higher.
